Susan Gilbert

Born in Massachusetts.

Lives In Boxford, Massachusetts.

Works at Reading Memorial High School, in Reading, Massachusetts.

     I have been teaching art at  Reading Memorial High school for 17 years.  I teach foundations classes to grades 9 and 10, as well as Sculpture, Illustration, and Advanced Placement art with a concentration in Three Dimensional Design and/or Drawing and Painting.  

     I attended Massachusetts College of Art and majored in Ceramics and Art Education.   I graduated  in 1989.  I have a professional license; and am certified to teach art to grades 5-12.  I received my Masters degree in Education in 2006, as a graduate of Cambridge College.  

     I love teaching and making art.  I work using lots of media including clay, wire, and wood, as well as drawing and Painting.  I enjoy creating objects, like one of a kind sculptural books. Every year I take classes to stay current in my profession and to bring new skills to my coursework.  For the past two years I have been taking encaustic painting classes as well as a great workshop in landscape painting.

• Teach Advanced Placement Art with a focus on both drawing and painting and three dimensional design.

• Mentor A.P. Students in independent projects in preparation for the A.P. exam

• Teach Introductory Art with a focus on drawing from observation, contour drawing; exploring different mark-making

techniques, media, painting and color theory.

• Design curriculum and instruct sculpture course where students learn various sculptural techniques, providing

them with a strong foundation in Three Dimensional Design.

• Design curriculum and Teach Illustration where students learn about various approaches to drawing including

observation, effective use of light and shade, line quality, composition, as well as various spatial systems( linear

perspective, illusion of 3-d forms, exploring different points of view).
